In 2012, WING was founded to bring together the research done worldwide in the field of poultry management in one location, to initiate new research projects and to communicate existing research results.
Since 1 October 2019, WING (Science and Innovation for Sustainable Poultry Production) has been conducting research at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Foundation (TiHo).
The research institute will also in future to be financed by the Lower Saxony Poultry Association (NGW). For the management of WING, the NGW will also finance an endowed professorship with the denomination of "Poultry farming and poultry health management in a global context". The content and scientific design of the professorship is overseen by TiHo.
The aim is to develop innovations for the improvement of animal welfare. The endowed professorship expands the scope of WING. The research under the endowed professorship, which is still to be filled, will cover the following areas:
As before, WING will continue to focus on knowledge transfer and provide the public with neutral, factual and scientific insights into poultry farming.
In order to bring consumers and livestock farmers into contact, open farm days will be organised by WING together with the poultry farmers. In addition, specialised excursions to farms and locations of the entire value chain of egg and poultry meat production will be arranged.
A special task of WING is the coordinated and objective communication of research results from the egg and poultry industry. Current national and international studies are analysed and published by WING.
